Our Story
Very few people have the good fortune during their most creative years to find as companion and guide someone like
Urs Rüttimann.
With his passing, we as his pupils felt an irreplaceable gap. We had lost not only our teacher, but moreover a person who for the best part of our lives had been our yardstick in matters of aesthetics, of dignity, of artistic stature, and of a humanistic approach to the world. In the four decades and more during which he was active in Greece, both as Principal Flute in the State Orchestra and Radio Symphony Orchestra, and as Professor at the Athens Conservatory, Urs Rüttimann created an immense legacy, which we in our turn felt a natural obligation to honour.
To this end, we decided to organise a musical competition which will bear the name of our teacher; in addition to its contribution to the advancement of a new generation of flautists, it will, we hope, be instrumental in making the wider public more aware of the charismatic personality of Urs Rüttimann, and of the magnitude of his contribution to the cultural life of his adopted country.
